race to valhalla
July 10, 2021
The mountain town of Walhalla, SC is named for Valhalla, a term for the Nordic afterlife.
After climbing in the mountains of the Upstate SC, nearing the Georgia Border you may feel like you have ridden into the afterlife. Rest assured that the amazing gravel roads, coupled with the challenging terrain will mean your afterlife will be greeted with amazing food and recovery drinks.
Two distances both start right in the quaint downtown of Walhalla. You'll be greeted with flat to rolling terrain before hitting the first of many dirt sections, including some long challenging climbs that brings you up the escarpment in the Upstate of South Carolina.
The long course (69 miles) brings you past the Chattooga River multiple times, into the heart of Oconee County before descending Rich Mountain Road and having a fast 6 mile run to the finish.
